So I’m Narrating This Audiobook…

I’m in Grand Haven, Michigan right now recording an audio version of The Fault in Our Stars. A lot of people have asked me to narrate the audiobook, and after extensive discussions with my awesome audiobook publisher, we have arrived at the following solution:

There will be a real audiobook, narrated by Kate Rudd, who sounds exactly like Hazel sounds in my head, and whose audition tape perfect and made me cry. That audiobook will be widely distributed in the way that audiobooks generally are and made available to the general public.

Then there will be this version, narrated by me, which will be available in a limited edition only at dftba.com and only as a physical thing. I’m in Grand Haven, Michigan now recording the audiobook, and in addition to six CDs comprising the recording, this box set will include:

- A DVD with eight videos in which I discuss themes from the book, visit settings, talk about different inspirations, and explore the many ways in which the nerdfighter community shaped (and made possible) the book that because The Fault in Our Stars.

- A wristband for The Hectic Glow, a band so underground they do not exist.

- A concert ticket for the aforementioned Hectic Glow.

- Four TFiOS-themed postcards designed by nerdfighters.

- Also, and this is important, every copy of this special, limited edition audiobook will be totally unsigned.

Like I said, the box set is really only for people in our community—well, and I guess anyone else who wants to listen to a 34-year-old man narrate the life of a 16-year-old girl. So, essentially this box set is for nerdfighters and then secondarily for extreme creepers.

We’re contractually obligated never to do a second printing, so these will be the only copies of this recording that ever exist. So I can’t promise my narration is good (it isn’t), but I am really grateful to my audiobook publisher Brilliance and everyone at DFTBA for making this possible, and I hope you like it!
