Brad Jones, Liverpool’s third-string keeper, started the FA Cup semifinal due to suspensions of both the first-string keeper Pepe Reina (seen above hugging Jones) and the regular back-up, Doni.
It was only Jones’s second start this season, whose 5-year-old son Luca died a year and a half of ago of leukemia. (Jones and his wife just had another baby, Nico, ten days ago.)
Liverpool won the game 2-1. You always want the club you support to win, of course, but it was really special to see a hard-working, likable third-string keeper play a very good game in goal in front of 80,000 people.
Great work, Brad! YNWA.
