wilwheaton:

John Green is my hero.

I wonder if I can use “John Green is my hero. -Wil Wheaton” as a blurb on the back of The Fault in Our Stars. I LIKE YOU BACK, WIL WHEATON.
(Side story: I met Wil Wheaton was at the LA Times Festival of Books in 2010. When I told my friend Cecil Castellucci that Wil Wheaton, one of the coolest and funniest people on the Internet, was in the same room as me, she insisted upon introducing us. I was nervous and awkward, as I always am when meeting people I admire, and after 45 seconds skulked back toward the cheese table. Hopefully, Mr. Wheaton does not recall this.)
p.s. I continue to partially disavow this quote. i.e., I think there are a variety of compelling reasons to be alive. More on this forthcoming in The Fault in Our Stars.

It doesn’t really matter whether you grip the arms of the dentist’s chair or let your hands lie in your lap. The drill drills on. C. S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

Half the harm that is done in this word
Is due to people who want to feel important.
They don’t mean to do harm — but the harm does not interest them.
Or they do not see it, or they justify it
Because they are absorbed in the endless struggle
To think well of themselves.

I am reblogging this from Wil Wheaton, who posted it on his tumblr. I said a thing that Wil Wheaton posted on his tumblr.
(Once, I met Wil Wheaton at the Los Angeles Times Book Fair. He was very nice.)

I sing of time, concealer and revelator, time which will rejoin you to the dead, time which like water destroys all that it nourishes.

An Imperial Affliction by Peter Van Houten

(This will the epigraph to my new novel, The Fault in Our Stars) — fishingboatproceeds

The English language, in all its massive, multi-volumed OED glory, does not contain enough words to express my enthusiasm about TFiOS. It is so. brilliant. I hope you’ve preordered it from your local independent bookshop *hint hint*, because you’d truly be missing out if you did not. I can’t wait to read it again and highlight and annotate and wear down every page. You might think I’m exaggerating a little - I am not. I loved this book and we all know I’m picky, regardless of whether it was written by a friend/secret relative or otherwise.
